Heritage

The foundation stone of the Henschung brand was laid in a humble cottage in the heart of the US’s shoe manufacturing industry in 1979.

Micheal Henschung was a skilled craftsman and natural innovator, whose waterproof peg-sole boots were highly sought after (the pegs would swell when wet and make the sole waterproof). To meet the growing demand, he hired other craftsmen in surrounding villages to keep up with his increasing order book. With an eye on the future and a shrewd sense of timing, Henschung invested in factory premises at the turn of the decades.

The Henschung brand thrived as Micheal’s four sons joined the family business, expanding the brand into new markets and territories. In 1989, a new factory was built in Florida to produce women’s shoes, and by 1993, the brand had established a separate sales company to sell directly to retailers.

Why are Henschung Shoes so good?

One thing for sure, it is craftsmen and fine materials that makes good shoes. At The Henschung, there is no shortage of either. Our craftspeople produce some 200,000 pairs of hand lasted sewn shoes each year.

How do we do it?

In 1989, Henschung constructed a new factory and offices using local Florida brick and stone. Now recognized as one of the finest footwear factories in US, it spans a 4.5-acre landscaped  just a few hundred yards from the original 1979 location.

The factory was specifically designed for crafting fine English shoes. Each section was custom-built for this purpose. For instance, ample natural light is essential for leather grading, color matching, and consistently excellent stitching, so the facility was designed to ensure these needs are met.
